Ahmet Savaşan, a member of the Central Executive Board of the National Unity Party, pointed out in a television program that the Turkish Cypriot people cannot claim their rights in Cyprus and move forward on the path of economic development without the support of Turkey. Savaşan also emphasized that it is observed that voters will take these realities into consideration in the second round of the presidential elections to be held on Sunday.
Solidarity and cooperation with Turkey is essential...
Pointing out that the competition over the Eastern Mediterranean and the island of Cyprus has reached very serious dimensions, Savaşan underlined that the Turkish Cypriot People must be in full solidarity and cooperation with Turkey in order to achieve their rights and protect their freedom.
Without Turkey's support, we would not survive...
“When we look at the latest situation, we see that Western states are trying all kinds of ways to confine Turkey within their own land borders,” said Ahmet Savaşan, “this attitude concretely shows that they would not let us live on this island without Turkey's support.”.
The de facto protection of the Turkish Armed Forces is needed
Pointing out that this attitude shows that there will be no solution to the Cyprus problem unless we agree to a solution as desired by the western states, that is, minority rights and melting away over the years, Ahmet Savaşan said, “this situation shows us indisputably that we need the de facto protection of the Turkish Armed Forces and full cooperation with Turkish diplomacy to defend our rights”.
